Sounding Out - Phonics
Sounding out helps children learn the relationship between letters and sounds, which helps to develop literacy skills. Phonemic decoding is just one part of reading. Practicing these skills will help children to:
- Recognize the sounds that each individual letter makes.
- Learn letter-sound relationships and identify the sounds that different combinations of letters make, such as ‘sh’ or ‘oo’.
- Blend sounds together from left to right to make a word.
- Decode new words that they hear or see.
- Improve their reading skills and efficiency.
- Build reading stamina.
